Ostrozac Castle

A striking architectural marvel, Ostrozac Castle is an eclectic complex containing a 13th-century medieval fort, an Ottoman military garrison, and a gorgeous neo-Gothic manor house rebuilt between 1900 and 1906 by Lothar von Berks by a romantic noble family.

History

Von Berks built the fairy-tale Neo-Gothic palace as a gift for his wife, featuring elegant towers, crenellations, and high-pitched roofs. During World War II, the fortress was briefly the headquarters of the Partisan resistance. The complex is surrounded by ancient pine forests and overlooking the Una River canyon, standing as a beautiful, albeit decaying, crossroads of European cultures.
