Srebrenik Fortress

Srebrenik is Bosnia’s most complete and spectacularly situated medieval fortress. It stands on a sheer, isolated rocky crag separated from the surrounding mountain by a deep defensive trench, accessible only via a wooden drawbridge.

History

From this fortress, Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić ruled over a territory stretching to the Sava in the north and the Adriatic in the south. The structure conforms to the irregular shape of the underlying rock, making it practically impregnable to medieval siege engines. The outer walls and interior towers remain remarkably intact, offering an unparalleled experience of medieval military life.
