Gâzî Hüsrev Beg (غازى خسرو بك)
Born in Serres to a Bosnian father (Ferhad-beg) and an Ottoman princess (Selçuk Sultan, daughter of Sultan Bayezid II). He governed the Sanjak of Bosnia from 1521 to 1541 with brief interruptions. He founded the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, Gazi Husrev-beg Medresa (the oldest operating educational institution in BiH, founded 1537), the Gazi Husrev-beg Library, the Bezistan covered market, Sahat-kula (clock tower), and the Morića Han.

The visionary urban architect and civic founder of Ottoman Sarajevo; his endowment (Vakuf) has functioned uninterrupted for over 485 years.
