What a canton governs
Under the Federation constitution the cantons hold police, education, culture, housing, public services, local land use, tourism and cantonal budgets. This is why school curricula, police uniforms and hospital funding differ from canton to canton, and why the Federation has thirteen governments in total.

Famous for the Stari Most (Old Bridge), a 16th-century Ottoman bridge rebuilt after being destroyed during the war. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and renowned for its bridge-diving tradition.
